LIBRARY PROJECT
LIBRARY PROJECT
This project involved the redesign of a Library. The project was completed in spring 2025, located in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia

Who we are
This library is designed with a core focus on inclusivity, accessibility, and sensory sensitivity, especially for neurodivergent individuals and their mental well-being.
The aim is to create a spatial experience that feels safe, intuitive, and supportive. A place where everyone can feel at ease, regardless of sensory needs.
The experience of the library is not fixed; it shifts depending on each user’s needs. The atmosphere is calm, yet visually engaging, with flowing curves and bookshelves that are carefully integrated.
The layout features soft transitions, open sightlines, and clearly defined zones to reduce confusion and promote gentle navigation.
Not placing the bookshelves directly against the walls allows people to move freely around them, creating a sense of openness and choice. This layout helps users avoid feeling boxed in or trapped.
Who we are
Emerging tools like artificial intelligence are offering new ways for individuals with autism to communicate, learn, and engage with the world around them. Technology is transforming how autistic individuals approach learning.
In the library, there are sensory rooms that serve as a customizable environment to support engagement and learning.
Upon entering the space, users are met with a neutral, low-stimulation setting, a “blank canvas” they can adjust to meet their own sensory preferences.
Who we are
The room is equipped with a tablet interface that allows users to control the ceiling lighting, air conditioning, sound system, and a 360-degree projection system that offers immersive light visuals.
Built-in speakers can play audiobooks, offering alternative forms of engagement.
Users have full control over the environment. This flexibility is central to the design. It functions as a tool for self-regulation and engagement..
